Morning Walk-thru - Finally, Having the NFL Network pays off

Keller v. Ganz a draw...On Saturday, Nebraska's red jerseys beat their white jerseys 38-0 but the most interesting competition was between the guys in the green shirts and there wasn't much to separate them.

Keller was 10-for-13, including at least two throwaways, with one TD pass. Ganz was 11-for-18 with one TD, showing a strong ability to scramble and beat any number of prospective defenders who weren't allowed to tackle him.

So if we didn't learn who had the upper hand, we did learn that we should have two capable QBs come next August. I actually had the thought while watching the replay that if Keller had never come to Nebraska I'd be willing to roll the dice with Ganz. That's a good feeling, especially as you watch our only healthy running back go down with a knee injury (rumored to be an MCL sprain).

But everything being equal, and we saw on Saturday that it was thus, I still think you give the nod to Keller for no other reason than team morale/lack of distractions. Ganz will be the starting QB at Nebraska at some point over the next two years and that excites me, seeing what the fiery Keller can do right from the start excites me even more.

And, as Darren noted over on BigRedNetwork, Patrick Witt looked like a gamer especially when you consider the offense and the fact that he's been a Cornhusker for less than three months.

New and exciting ways to lose...The Cubs got another gem from Ted Lilly yesterday. Two hits, 10 strikeouts and a loss.

Chicago had their chance. Soriano doubled to lead off the 7th and Ryan Theriot picked up his third hit of the game to put runners on the corner with no outs. For a second, I actually believed that maybe Lou's refusal to be the Cubs was actually working.

Nope. Jacque Jones struck out which was to be expected and Derrek Lee did the same, which was not to be expected. Michael Barrett then was inches away from possibly giving the Cubs the lead with a double, but it went foul and that was it.

I'm certain that this sort of thing happens to other teams, but it never feels that way.

(Related self-promotion: After watching this, I was ready to request one of each from this list.)

Will to walk away...Former Cornhusker Will Shields announced on his website that he's hanging up his cleats after 14 seasons in the NFL. A number of Nebraska alums have had fine careers in the league and Shields' will stack up with just about any of them.
