In perhaps the biggest signing day mystery for Nebraska, Miami wide receive Kendall Thompkins has decided to stay put and join The (FL).
A couple of noteworthy statistics that I feel should be relevant for any potential wide receiver:
2007 Passing Yards
The (FL): 2034, 103rd in the country
The N: 3886, 8th in the country
2007 Passing Yards/Game
The (FL): 169.5, 103rd in the country
The N: 323.8, 8th in the country
2007 Passing Attempts/Game
The (FL): 25.1
The N: 40.1
2007 Passing TDs
The (FL): 16
The N: 31
Nebraska's signed five WR recruits of their own, but only Khiry Cooper and Antonio Bell outpace Thompkins in star count. Meanwhile, Thompkins commitment gives Miami seven recruits listed as a WR according to Scout.com, all of whom, other than Thompkins, are listed as three-star or better.
That's a lot of presumably talented guys to whom Miami won't be throwing.

Maybe his girlfriend decided to go there. Who knows anymore? If these guys used logic in where they picked to go to school, parity would disappear.
I can't be sure but it has been rumored that Thompkins called the Nebraska coaches crying, claiming that he had made a big mistake. Supposedly several of his teammates committed to The (FL), he felt a little pressure and signed his LOI but went back to his coach and was informed that it had already been faxed. The Good Guys told him there was nothing that could be done and during his PC Pelini made an indirect reference to the situation. A rumor remember so don't kill the messenger.
Not to sling more rumors about but I heard this post was directly responsible for the supposed change of heart you mentioned.
In all seriousness however, it wouldn't surprise me if the Thompkins rumors were true. It took a while for his LOI to show up (at least based on the blogs), and, as I insinuated above, he'd have a much easier path to meaningful PT at Nebraska.
I don't know the specifics regarding LOIs but it seems a bit odd that a kid can change his mind 8.5 times before signing day but once the paper is signed that's it? He better matriculate at Miami or there will be hell to pay!
After all, it's simply a letter of intent, right? I mean, I've intended to write a best-selling novel that would make me rich beyond belief for some time now. I'm glad the NCAA isn't hanging over my head forcing me to deliver.
