Thoughts from a football Saturday...Nebraska

What can you learn by listening to the radio? Probably not that much--especially with Mr. Rose involved--but I'll be here nonetheless.

--For a second there, I was really envisioning a three-and-out. Just for a second.

--Blackshirts get a stop, mercifully, but then Thenarse blows up the punter. First down! Here's a test for the defense.

--Turnovers. That's what the Blackshirts need. Something, after about 10 quarters of misery, finally goes right. Now it's fun time. Bring on the offense.

--60-yard completion, Keller to Hardy. A shot upfield? I love it!

--Not a good time for Lucky's first fumble of the season. Can we just throw it 50 to 60 times every game? Please.

--Second straight special teams boner gives Iowa State a first down.

--I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for out of this game. Isn't it every bit the no-win the Ball State game was? Beat Iowa State and congratulations, you've now done what Northern Iowa did. Lose or look sloppy? It'll be another long week in Nebraska.

--The officials are now just throwing flags on any special teams play. After they pick up this hanky, Iowa State leads 3-0. I'll call that a win for the Blackshirts considering they thought they'd gotten off the field twice now.

--INT Keller on the first play after the kickoff. Well, we're getting ample opportunities to see the Blackshirts.

--Well, one quarter down and Iowa State has kept Nebraska's best (only?) weapon off the field almost entirely. Five plays for Nebraska in the 1st quarter.

--Maybe I shouldn't say Iowa State has kept our offense off the field. Nebraska has taken themselves off the field. Lucky fumbles again.

--Most shocking thing I heard out of Nebraska last week? Vershan Jackson's assertion that Grixby would get drafted as a nickel back. Good for Courtney and nice INT.

--Iowa St. 10 Nebraska 0. Looks like another fun one.

--Nebraska 7 Iowa State 10. Needed that.

--Thank you dead ball rule! I couldn't have dealt with another four down stop being nullified.

--Sam the Surgeon does what he wants. Can you imagine what Nebraska would be without him? Nebraska 14 ISU 10.

FIRST HALF THOUGHTS: Iowa State hasn't earned anything yet but I'll blame that on Nebraska. The Blackshirts have answered the call for the most part and Sam Keller has been similarly solid minus the INT and that scramble to end the half. That play pretty much summed up the first half. Ugly and undisciplined.

Just win baby? Please.
