But I like writing about Nebraska too, so if you feel ripped off at having to read something so specific rather than my general sports blathering, sorry.
Keller or Ganz? Pick one, then give three reasons why.
I made my case for Keller a couple of weeks ago for one reason alone: you start the season with the kid on the bench and a) he'll probably never recover and contribute in any capacity or b) he'll raise holy hell. Neither of those is particularly appealing so just let Keller keep the job or lose it with his play when the games really matter.
But that's only one reason, so here are a couple more:
2) Sam's a fiery guy, and I'm interested in the culture clash that will occur when Keller fires his finger pistols after a TD or gives Swift an earful for a dropped ball. Will diligent Nebraskans buy it? If it means more W's I think they will but I'm already sold.
3) He's not afraid to leave the top four or so buttons on his shirt unbuttoned. Only QBs can get away with that. And Matt Slauson.
The most impressive guy at the Spring Game.
A boy named Suh. We're going to need Ndamukong to be a force right away with all four starters on the defensive front gone and he definitely was during the blood feud battle between red and white.
If you were the Athletic Director, what would you do with the proceeds?
Buy the rights to this gem and make it our official fight song.
Do 54,000 people show up at Nebraska's Spring Game because there is really nothing else to do in Nebraska OR because we're more in love with our Huskers than anyone else is with their team?
Two things I believe:
1) There's nothing to do anywhere. Sure, a city has a ton of things to do in theory, but those of us who live in them know that the one thing you end up doing most is nothing, which can be done anywhere. Make sense?
2) When you get to the upper echelon of college football comparing one school's fan base with that of another is pretty ridiculous (but always fun). Alabama, Ohio State, Nebraska, we're all crazy, football-sick bastards and that never ever leads to feelings of camaraderie which is the beauty of college football.
We all undergo the same weird tribal rituals just under different colors but it's those colors that matter. Nebraska is unique because it's the only school to have won a national title in the last 40 years without any other in-state competition for rooting interests from either a professional team or another D1 school. If you're a fan of most any other school you're directly opposed by at least some of your neighbors. Not in the Good Life.
To get to the point, 54,000 people showed up for the Spring Game because that's what Nebraskans do: watch football.
When you heard or saw Marlon Lucky was injured, your first thought was?
That the Nebraska running back corps had made the Cubs pitching staff look like the luckiest group on earth.
Were you at all concerned by the fairly modest rushing performance overall by the Red team or is that a sign there's some depth on the defensive front seven?
I am confident that the rock will once again be pounded when the games begin to count.
I'm just happy that none of the converted safeties, stadium attendants or student managers we had back there spontaneously combusted.
Callahan called the receiving corps the strength of the team. Would you tend to agree with that or would you choose another aspect?
Agree, but it's difficult to fathom. How did Nebraska get to a place where the pass-catchers would be leading the way? As most everyone else noted, the linebacking corps provides probably the closest competition but we've seen more game results out of the receivers so I'm with Bill.
